Play Therapy at Hugi

Play Therapy at Hugi
We can help
If you’re here, there’s a good chance your child has been struggling emotionally, perhaps with anxiety, confidence, friendships, big feelings, or something difficult they’ve experienced. You might be feeling worried, unsure, or simply wanting to offer them extra support. You’re not alone. At Hugi, we offer Play Therapy delivered by a qualified, PTUK-registered Play Therapist, providing children with a safe, gentle space to express themselves and begin to make sense of their experiences through play. Play therapy recognises that children don’t always have the words to explain how they feel but they can often show us through play. Sessions are child-led, non-judgemental and unrushed, allowing children to explore emotions at their own pace in a way that feels safe and contained.
Who are sessions for?
Play therapy can support children experiencing:
• Anxiety or worries
• Low confidence or self-esteem
• Emotional regulation difficulties
• Friendship or social challenges
• Bereavement or loss
• Bullying
• School avoidance
• Major life changes (such as separation, new sibling, house move)
This is not an exhaustive list, every child is considered individually and suitability is always discussed first.

How Play Therapy works
Sessions are grounded in a non-directive, child-centred approach, where:
• The child leads and the therapist follows
• The child is accepted exactly as they are
• There is no pressure to talk
• Therapy is never rushed
• Emotional safety and trust come first
A wide range of therapeutic tools may be used, including: Storytelling, creative play, art, sandplay, puppets, movement, music, drama and imaginative play — supporting the whole child, not just the presenting difficulty.
