Communication is key

Our updates focus on your child’s wellbeing, engagement, communication and experiences, offering a meaningful overview of their day in a way that is easy to understand.

Rather than lengthy reports, we share concise, purposeful observations that reflect your child’s progress, development and time with us.

Observations

Our observations capture meaningful moments in each child’s day, focusing on how they engage, communicate, and experience their environment.

We use the Leuven Scales of Wellbeing and Involvement to help us understand how a child is feeling and how deeply they are engaged, allowing us to respond in a way that supports emotional safety and connection.

Rather than formal or intrusive recording, we notice and reflect on small but significant interactions, interests, and progress, building a picture of each child’s development over time.

These observations are shared through Tapestry and link to our bespoke Hugi curriculum, supporting assessment, planning, and a shared understanding between staff, families, and professionals.

Care diary

Our care diary records the key care information for each child throughout the day, including food and drink, toileting, medication, sleep or rest, and any injuries or incidents.

This ensures that all essential information is accurately recorded and shared with parents, carers, and relevant professionals, supporting consistency, safety, and wellbeing.

At Hugi, clear and careful recording is an important part of how we care for every child, ensuring their needs are understood and responded to throughout the day.

Planned activities

At Hugi, our planned activities provide gentle structure to the day while remaining responsive to each child’s needs, interests, and emotional readiness.

Activities are thoughtfully designed to support communication, wellbeing, and engagement, drawing on approaches such as sensory play, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, and outdoor learning experiences.

While we plan with intention, we remain flexible allowing children the time, space, and support they need to feel safe, connect with others, and begin to engage in meaningful experiences.

Registers

Our registers provide a clear and accurate overview of each child’s attendance, helping us ensure consistency, safety, and accountability across our provision.

We use this information to support communication with schools, local authorities, and families, ensuring everyone has a shared understanding of a child’s engagement and routine.

At Hugi, even simple systems like registers are part of our wider commitment to providing structured, reliable, and transparent support for every child

A lasting memory

At Hugi, we know that every child’s journey is unique and meaningful. When a child moves on to their next steps, we professionally print their Tapestry learning journal into a keepsake book.

This becomes:

    •    A celebration of their journey

    •    A reflection of their growth and experiences

    •    A special memory for families to keep and revisit

It captures not just what they did but how they felt, how they connected, and how far they’ve come.
